Koichi Matsumoto (Born 1967)
Born in Shizuoka, Japan. After graduating vocational school as a car mechanic and working in repairing and maintaining Super Cars and Classical Cars, Matsumoto entered a career selling used automobiles.
However, with a passion to create something new, Matsumoto left his job and the life of a salaried worker at the age of 34.
With personal savings of 10 million yen, Matsumoto independently began concept work in various fields, but ultimately decided that he wished to revolutionize the adult novelty industry.
After three years of trial and error, and moments before his savings ran out, he managed to create TENGA Inc., in March 2005.
On July 7th of that same year, all his effort and hard work paid off with the launch of the original 5 “TENGA” CUPs.
The series was an enormous success, selling over 1 million units in its first year alone. Matsumoto is now President of TENGA Co., Ltd. – a lifestyle brand of sexual wellness items.
